Panpaya Latin Grill

There are certain unicorns you find in life, rarities that don’t exist other than in fairy tales.  Finding a good, solid eatery inside an old shopping center is one of those unicorns.  It was so rare and unexpected that I’ve decided to come out of foodie retirement to write this review.

The day started off innocent enough.  I had mentioned to my wife that to celebrate Colombian Independence day we should go find some Colombian food somewhere.  My quick google search gave me just one result, and that was Panpaya Latin Grill at Provo Town Center.  My family is a Utah County novice as we just moved to Saratoga Springs 6 weeks ago.

Glancing over the reviews on Google, the restaurant was still rated at 5.0 out of 5.  That usually means that the place is still too new, or the family and friends have voted it up.  I’m happy to add another 5.0 star review to Panpaya.  The place was amazing.

What really stood out was the friendly service we received from the mother daughter combo working there.  The lady we talked to is from Venezuela and has only been here a few months.  She was eager to have us try literally everything on the menu, and literally everything was spectacular.  The had the absolute must arepa offering as well as a good selection of meats and sides.

It’s hard for me to recommend just one of the meats, as they were all tremendous.  The pollo romero was in this creamy rosemary sauce and quickly became a favorite among my kids.  The sweet shredded pork had a nice salty sweet taste to it, and the grilled chicken was on point.  Sweet maduro plantains, mashed potatoes, or garbanzo bean salads completed the side menu.  Also being offering was a delicious boba ice cream shake drink that was spectacular.  And the Colombian/Venezuela soda connoisseurs will be happy to see they offer both a Colombiana and Postobon.

I can’t recommend this place high enough.  We had a wonderful time conversing with the friendly staff, and sampling their food.  It was all delicious.  Don’t be scared off by the shopping center food court.  Come try these guys out!
