Curry in a Hurry

Curry in a Hurry

Here we are in South South Lake getting ready to go into Curry in a Hurry.  The name is what got me here.  I’ve driven by this place often in my time here in Salt Lake City.  We just happened to have a little time to go out to lunch, and we all wanted curry, and we didn’t have a lot of time … so you get where I’m going here.  “Curry in a Hurry”

Curry in a Hurry isn’t going to win any awards for best ambiance, or best presentation.  In fact, I immediately was concerned when I walked in.  They had some buffet type pans of food inside sitting by the register, and when ordering, the guy working the counter scooped up my chicken curry and put it on a white tray for me.  I couldn’t tell if I was in a cafeteria or a restaurant.  That along with the interesting art and picture displays located throughout the place, I felt I was in for a trip.  The picture of Jon Huntsman with a quote underneath “I couldn’t live without Curry in a Hurry” only partially settled my nerves.

So here was my chicken curry combo.  Again, true to the name of the place, you get your curry in a hurry without a huge wait.  The food itself however, after all the warning signs, was actually pretty good.  Good enough that I returned for a second time a short few days later.  The curry was Middle Eastern in origen and not your Thai curry you get at other places.  It had a nice buttery taste to it, and the chicken and rice were both really well done.  The pita bread was warm and buttery with a tingle of garlic.  The potatoes were nothing to write home about.  In fact the only different between a “plate” and a “combo” was the additional of a veggie side.   I would skip that.  Chicken, rice, and bread are all you need.

Curry in a Hurry didn’t blow me away.  It was pretty decent comfort food, and made me return for a second visit, and in fact I am not opposed to visiting once a month or so.  Comfort food can be deceiving to the individual.  We all have that comfort go to place.  For some its Burger King, for others it is the breakfast empanada bites from 7-11, and yet for others it could be a place like Curry in a Hurry.  It wasn’t good enough to rave about, and probably doesn’t have  cult following like a place such as Moochies for example.  But its good enough to warrant a return trip, and the food was good.

Finally I like trying different soda flavors from around the world.  This stuff was a berry based cola that was quite tasty.
