La Table Crepes

La Table Crepes

The food truck scene at my office building has been an interesting one.  I work at Old Mill in Holladay just off the I-215 exit to go up to the ski resorts.  We have 700+ people who work in our building everyday.  Across the parking lot there is an Overstock.com office building.  There are a few people who work at Overstock.com that schedule food trucks to come to their building Monday through Friday for lunch.  The only problem for us guys that work in my building is we can’t see what the truck is from our windows, so we have to resort to either a Twitter feed, or spy drone, or sending a volunteer on a super secret covert operation to find out what the food truck is, and then report it back through our company’s highly secure and secret IM channel. (Slack)  This is why you have been seeing a lot of food truck reviews around the Holladay area for me.  I feel like I’ve scoped out a lot of the restaurants already in the area, which is why I just love this food truck arrangement at Overstock.com, and which is why I enjoyed it even more when we spied out a new food truck on their grounds, one that we have not seen before.  La Table Crepes.

La Table Crepes, is exactly as it sounds, it’s a food truck that makes crepes.  They have a savory option as well as several sweet options.  I see more and more crepe kiosks and locations and shopping centers while I travel, but having them mobile and in a food truck is new for me.  In general I think I like crepes, but I don’t know if I love them.  The thing I love about them is the crepe itself isn’t substantial enough to drown out the flavors of whatever is in the crepe.  You can get more “sandwich” for your buck that you would get from a normal sandwich and usually with less carbs.  With that however, I generally don’t come away from eating a crepe as satisfied as I would after a good sandwich.

It was lunch time so I had to go with the only savory crepe option on the menu.  I would have liked to have had more options presented to me, but sometimes fewer options are better because it takes the guess-work out of ordering.  I knew I wanted a savory crepe, and I was hungry, so the choice was easy.  The flavors of this chicken pesto crepe was on point.  The crepe was delicious as was the chicken.  Two things stood out to me, first is how full the crepe was on the inside.  La Table charges $9 dollars for this thing, so I’m glad they didn’t skimp out on the mozzarella.  The second thing that stood out was the yummy pesto sauce on top.  Overall it was a really well-balanced and flavorful crepe.  It even came with an attractive little side salad which I took a few bites of, but ultimately didn’t pay too much attention to.

Overall I would give these guys a thumbs up with one observation post-crepe meal.  I finished it off, but felt like I was still hungry for a bit more, or could have used something sweet to finish it off.  I could have ordered two crepes here, but that would have put my food truck trip price tag to around $15.  I think a good food truck needs to satisfy my hunger for around the $10 price point.  I felt La Table just missed on this, and this is also where a sandwich of the same size and girth may have just done the trick.  If you are looking for something sweet and/or a crepe with some great flavors, then La Table is going to scratch that itch.  If you are famished and need to throw down food into the pie-hole quickly.  Be prepared to dish out for multiple crepes.
