Copper Kitchen

The word Copper is quickly becoming the Pavlov’s dog to my appetite.  I just have to hear the word “copper” and I immediate get hungry.  Newly opened Copper Kitchen is the third member of the Copper Trinity in Salt Lake City joining Copper Onion and Copper Commons.  (For the record Copper Creek Pub and Grill is also fabulous but unrelated)

I’m fascinated with the food prep process.  I’ve been getting into baking and cooking at home lately, so a chance to sit up and close and personal at Copper Kitchen for me is truly enjoyable.  I took this picture from right in front of the action, and got to watch my food be prepared by the Copper chefs.

The Copper Kitchen lunch menu

The Copper Kitchen lunch menu

Here is a pictured of the lunch menu, but you can find their dinner and weekend brunch menus online here.  I’ve now tried their ck burger, baked mac & cheese, and philly cheese steak.  I’ve heard tales of amazement from brunch time as well, however I have yet to try it.

Copper Kitchen Baked Mac & Cheese

Copper Kitchen Baked Mac & Cheese

Here we have the Copper Kitchen Mac & Cheese consisting of farro pasta, bacon, and caramelized onions.  It was delicious for the first few bites, but because it was so rich, I find myself unable to finish the plate.  I like the farro pasta angle here, but I felt it the flavor, although outstanding was too solitaire.  I wanted some other flavors mixed in here for my palate, the bacon pieces was a good choice, but they were baked into the mac, so because lost in the overall richness of the plate.

Philly Cheesesteak

Philly Cheesesteak

This may not be what you would find at Pats, Geno’s East, or John’s Pork Roast in Philly, but the sandwich was excellent all the same.  My favorite part of the sandwich was the baguette used.  Upon first glance I feared it would be too hard, and would fall apart while trying to eat the sandwich.  That was not the case, the bread was perfect.  Lightly crispy on the outside, but chewy and substantial enough to hold the sandwich’s interior properly.  Top Notch sandwich here.

Copper Kitchen CK Burger

On a separate occasion I sampled the CK burger.  The distinguishing birth mark here was the duck fat aioli that the patty was grilled with.  It was delicious, and gave the burger a unique and tasty kick.  The fries were seasoned well, but a little overdone for my tastes.

I look forward to sample some of Copper’s brunch and dinner offerings.  I loved the service I received both times, and the ambiance and views were great.  As a matter of fact this entire building located in Holladay is full of great eating options from 3 Cups, the Taqueria 27, to Caputo’s Market.  Worth the trip!
