Alexander’s Steakhouse

To my knowledge this is the first Michelin rated restaurant featured on my blog.  When you get a second, watch the video from their website. Alexander’s Steakhouse in Cupertino, California home of Apple Computers did not disappoint.  The entire experience at Alexander’s ended up being phenomenal.  As I was considering my own unworthiness to write this post, This scene from Beauty and The Beast came to mind.  Our party arrived and were ushered into this castle of a restaurant passing works of art on display like the ones below:

Passing the steak displays and walking by the Michelin awards on the left.  I definitely got the feeling that these guys were serious business when it came to steaks.  I don’t know a ton about the Michelin system, only that when I go online, there is a video posted of when they interview one of the inspectors and their face is all darkened as if it were an episode of America’s Most Wanted.  The reason why I reference Beauty and the Beast is because throughout the evening, we were served by no fewer that 5 wait staff.  There was a gentleman for the water, a gentleman for the bread tray, someone to take our orders, someone to top off our beverages and clear our plates, and there was even a head waitress who oversaw the entire operation.  When our meals were presented they were all placed at the same time.  I felt like a king.

The gentleman who came out with the bread had this wooden tray full of 5-6 kinds of bread.  Pictured above were the jalapeno poppers and parmesan cheese crusted crisps.  They also had some sourdough slices and olive bread slices.  Each one wonderful and fantastic in their own right.

Mushroom Bisque

Mushroom Bisque

I went ahead and ordered a mushroom bisque before my steak dinner, because why not right?  This soup was so freaking good, it took all my willpower to not just tip the bowl and pour it all down my throat at once.  I physically had to control my bite size and speed in order to savor the soup.  Easily the best mushroom soup I’ve ever had.  Delicious!

Wedge Salad

Wedge Salad

Even something simple like a wedge salad is transformed into this splendid work of art.  Just listening to the waitress describe the salad was a treat in itself.  Two thick, thick, thick pieces of pork belly bacon on top of a bed of blue cheese sauce.  The plate looked like a lily pad of some sort.  Great taste and presentation.

Okay here it goes.  You are about the see greatness.

Let me preface my steak review by adding that we ordered 3 different sides for the table; mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, and truffle mac and cheese.  Each one of these sides served in other restaurants would have been fantastic, but because they were ordered along side pure ambrosia, they because lost in euphoria that is an Alexander’s Steakhouse steak.

New York Steak

Doesn’t really matter what I type here, it will not do this plate justice.  I put this easily in the top three steaks I’ve ever had.  If it were not bad form to pick up the bone and chew off every last morsel of meat, I would have done so.  I ordered my steak medium, which I felt was absolutely the right decision.  The flavor, the marbling, it was exquisite!

Cotton Candy to finish it off

Cotton Candy to finish it off

Every table receives a cotton candy along with brittle and candied jellies.  It made me feel like a kid at a carnival or something, which with all the glee my steak brought me was exactly how I felt.  Alexander’s was a rare occasion for me, and one I won’t soon forget.  It was outstanding.
