Bread Winner’s Cafe in Dallas, Texas was the destination for breakfast during my last trip to the Lone-star State. It can be tricky sometimes deciding where to eat in cities foreign to you. It didn’t take me long to settle in on Bread Winner’s though. All the reviews and pictures I read online were outstanding. I can say after my first visit, it was definitely the right choice. I felt like the winner here. It has been a while since I’ve had such a delicious breakfast in a really relaxed setting.
When we arrived we were asked if we were with the Wells Fargo group, I replied “If that gets us free food, then yes, yes we are!” Our hostess/waitress had a good sense of humor. I told her I was from out-of-town and read about them online, and to give us the best seat in the house. She let us into an interior garden room pictured above that was really cool. Cast iron seats and furniture with actual living plants around. I was really refreshing and relaxed.
I loved the little platter of pastries provided to us before our meal. I thought it was a good customer service and marketing strategy all rolled into one. Give the customer something free to build some good vibe, and also a taste of what is sold in the bakery to boost up sales. I sampled each one and they were all yummy. The zucchini bread was probably my favorite of the bunch.
There were so many great looking things to choose from the menu, but I rolled the dice with the biscuits and gravy plate. WOW, freaking home run plate! The gravy was so delicious I would have stuck my head in a barrel of it and not come up for air until it was gone. It had tons of unique and delicious flavors, Bread Winners took the standard country gravy, and +100’d it! The sausage that came with the plate was really good too, not to mention the fresh biscuits swimming underneath the blanket of magic sauce. I almost want to cry I liked this dish so much.
My co-worked ordered the French Ham Benedict sandwich and said it was one of the best breakfast sandwiches he has ever had. They take ham, eggs, asparagus covered with Hollandaise sauce and stick it inside a fresh croissant. They don’t use weeny ham either, only thick deli cut slices. I pestered him to try a bite or two and it was amazing. The breakfast potatoes compared with our main dishes were a bit of a let down though, they were somewhat dry. I would have liked them to be sautéed a bit more.
My other colleague ordered just a standard plate of eggs, scone, and breakfast potatoes. BUT it came with a plate of ….

Stop what you are reading right now and audibly say the words “Crispy Maple Pork Belly”. Say it. I’m pretty sure every time those words are uttered in that order, and angel get’s his/her wings. Crispy Maple Pork Belly could probably bring world peace and cure cancer. They were absolutely divine! Not sure how I managed to eat breakfast for 35 years without having these slices of heaven by my side.
Bread Winners was top-notch breakfast cuisine in the downtown Dallas area. If you are in town for breakfast, just make sure you schedule your first meeting for around 9 AM. Bread Winners opens at 7 AM CST so you should have plenty of time to enjoy one of the best breakfast dishes of your life.
Finally I wanted to share one last picture before closing this review. We drove down to Dealey Plaza where JFK was assassinated in 1963. You can walk right onto the street and stand in the exact spot where the president was shot and killed. You can see the line of sight right up to the 6th floor of the Texas School Book Depository where Lee Harvey Oswald was standing in the corner window. That is of course you believe the group behind the assassination was the male model fashion industry according to the movie Zoolander.
