If you are looking for something different, but fresh at the same time, and you support local business like I do, then Couscous is a great choice. I had to give some thought on how to tag this post, because Couscous is advertised as a “Mediterranean” grill. I suppose there are some similarities with some Greek places, but maybe a place like Mazza would be a more appropriate comparison. Couscous of course is not fine dining, or a table service restaurant, but a quick service place for those seeking the unique and fresh.
I literally had no idea what to order, so I just asked the man in charge what the most popular dish was. He told me they sell the shwarma plate more than anything so I went with it. The shwarma plate comes with a mix of lamb and beef rotisserie meat with lettuce, tomato, onions, pita, and yogurt dill sauce. The veggies were all fresh and tasty but I thought the star of this plate was actually the pita and meat. The pita was very tasty, it had the type of taste and quality that you just knew was made in-house, and not bought from a store. The dill sauce went well with everything.
I’ll be perfectly honest with my first thoughts of this “stew” when it was given to me. I thought that doesn’t look very appetizing at all. My first bite was very cautious, just like a little toddler trying something his mommy put in front of his mouth for the first time. However there was a timeline to how I eat this stew:
First Bite: Hmm, that tastes better than it looks.
Second Bite: This is actually a LOT better than it looks.
Third Bite: Uhm this stuff is awesome.
Fourth Bite: Why in the hell did I order anything else? I just want to eat this stew!
In addition to the healthy fresh food, the owner and service was very nice. The gentleman working I am assuming to be the manger/owner because I have since been back just has a good vibe to him, like is enjoying what he is doing. Another thing that stood out to me was the size of the kitchen. We aren’t talking about a small fast food kitchen, where they dish out food that has been sitting there for a while. I felt they put a lot of work and effort into my food. I’m glad I discovered this little gem of a restaurant up in the Murray area. Will be back for sure.
