It was a beautiful Autumn day, and it was an even better day to visit Cafe Niche. This was my first visit there and I WILL be back. Niche was amazing. Its tucked away in the neighborhood of Salt Lake City leading up to the U of U. The area has a lot of good places to eat and this is certainly one of them. We arrived around noon, expecting to be served lunch menus. Luckily Niche still does breakfast up until 1 PM so we had our choice from both menus. We ordered a few dishes from each menu, and they were all glorious.
I checked out the dining room while Luke and Avery spun around on the bar stools. There is a nice patio area at Niche that was just perfect for this time of year, and a nice space on the inside. The dining room was clean and relaxed. It kinda wrapped around the open bar and kitchen. It didn’t feel like it was a huge place, but definitely nice.
We have a 18 month old son that sometimes doesn’t do too well at restaurants. As we were waiting for our food he started to get a little fussy. The head chef noticed and so without even being asked, he sliced up some of these delicious looking apple sticks. Levi loved them! What a thoughtful gesture by Niche and kudos for paying attention to their guests and taking good care of them!
Before I get into my food review, I have to take a minute to rant and rave about the lemonade. I was not expecting this, but it’s probably the best tasting lemonade I’ve had anywhere. I was expecting your standard Coke fountain lemonade, but this stuff tasted hand squeezed and sweetened perfectly. If there was a swimming pool of this stuff, I’d jump in and spend all day there. Don’t miss on the lemonade if you go to Niche!
I went with the Cuban sandwich from the lunch menu. It had thinly sliced pork with delicious cheese all on a baguette. All of the plates came with the most delicious green salads with balsamic vinegar dressing. In fact I sensed a theme in many of the dishes. They only pick fresh ingredients and veggies. The Cuban sandwich tasted great, I just wish it was a little bigger.
This breakfast sandwich was amazing. It came on a home-made english muffin with eggs, avocado, bacon, and hollandaise sauce. I had a bite, and immediately wish I would have ordered it. Looking around the restaurant I noticed a lot of people ordering this dish, so definitely consider ordered this one!
The breakfast plate comes with your choice of tomato or bacon. I know what you are thinking here, I mean it’s almost not fair, bacon is bacon. But don’t automatically order it. The tomatoes were cooked and marinated in something that was border line obscene. These tomatoes tasted like they were straight out of a garden. Just Amazing! The hash browns were done just right too.
My son got the Elk burger that was garnished with a chimichurri sauce along with mayo and cabbage. The meat was awesome. I was wondering if it was going to taste game-y being Elk, but not at all. This burger will give any a run for its money.
Finally we got the fish tacos for my daughter. At first she complained, but then we all noticed she was just digging into those tacos. Niche gives a good size piece of fish in those things.
I’m glad I came to Niche. If you are looking for a neighborhood feel and fresh organic taste then come to here. The prices weren’t even as high as we were expecting. I’ll definitely be back here. Will probably go with the breakfast sandwich next time!
