I’ve been a resident of West Valley City for the past 10 years, and have realized that I haven’t blogged anything out this way. Now before you start thinking to yourself “That’s because there is nothing good to eat in West Valley Hyrum!” I’m here to tell you that in the past 2-3 years that has all changed. For us West Valley guys we are all well aware of the growth explosion along 5600 West between 3500 South and the HWY 201. When I first moved out here, there was pretty much nothing along that road except your usual fast food offerings and the West Valley Family Fitness Center. Now 10 years later we have a ton of choices out here. We even have our own 5 Guys Burgers and Fries and Cafe Rio. (I know right?) So in celebration of the first day of summer, and also the 4 day event out here in West Valley that we call WESTFEST, I’m going to give you the 2 best places to eat along 5600 West in West Valley. Up until a month ago, I could only give you one, but as I was driving down the road last week, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, luckily they were not because we now have our very own CHICKEN EXPRESS !!!
Seekers of value, taste, and friendly service are all well aware of this blip on the radar. Chicken Express has operated in South Salt Lake along State Street for many years now. I say value, because you will be hard pressed to get more for what you pay for when you come to Chicken Express. They load up your plate with fresh salad, meat, rice and potatoes like a Tonka truck. I say taste because pretty much everything on the menu is prime from the gyro plate, to the chicken and beef kabobs, to the BBQ ribs. And finally I say service, because these guys care about their customers and make sure you get enough to eat each time you come in. Check this picture below out!
Look at how full this plate looks? If the owner of Chicken Express would happen to give me a plate and invite me back into the kitchen to load up, there is no way I could do a better job of stacking my platter full of tasty food. You need two strong hands with a firm grip to carry this baby back to your table. Each plate comes with salad and pita bread, and you can choose between potatoes and rice, but for those of us that are Chicken Express experts you can ask to have half potatoes and half rice. Now honestly look at those portions. Does that rice portion look like a half rice portion to you? And is that a cup of incredible yogurt sauce in the middle of that plate or are you just happy to see me?
I’ve never seen a plate at Chicken Express that was under filled. If you come out to West Valley, then make this a stop on your agenda. I’m really glad I’m getting a few of my favorite places out here. And be sure to come out this week June 21-24, for Westfest 2012. Westfest is at Centennial Park on the corner of 5600 West and 3100 South just across the street from the Wal-Mart. I went there today and thought my wife would never finish checking out the artisan tents, so we could head over to the food vendor tents. I swear there must have been 10 “win a prize” tents, and my kids had to throw sandbags and spin wheels at every one of them. We sure did fill the bottom of our stroller with “Prizes”. This year I saw several food vendor tents that looked pretty good. While my wife and kids played it safe with The Pie pizza slices, I went with a Thai food combo plate with chicken curry empanadas. I was pretty happy with my choices.
Okay so there you have it. Chicken Express for lunch first, then head over to WestFest for carnival rides and fun. Saturday at 10 PM there will even be a Fireworks show. Also stay tuned next week for my #1 best place to eat in West Valley.
