Carl’s Cafe

Carl’s Cafe

May 6, 2013

When I go into Carl’s Cafe, I feel like I am being transported into a diner from the 80′s.  Not the in your face “Saved by the Bell” diner, but a foot of the canyon, ski bum diner.  The good news here is that apparently someone forgot to tell Carl that this is 2013 and not the 80′s and food nowadays generally costs more....

Smitty’s Pancake and Steak House

Smitty’s Pancake and Steak House

Mar 8, 2013

It’s with great pleasure I write my first South Eastern Idaho review!  I am from Idaho Falls originally, and to this day is one of my favorite places in the world.  A lot has changed since I was a little kid.  I’m not quite as familiar with the food scene as a lot of my relatives that live there still.  I do however, have a few spots to share...

I love exploring new territory, it makes me feel like I did when I was a kid growing up in an Air Force family.  Every few years we would move and there would be new playgrounds, woods, fields, and stuff to explore.  As is the case with me and Sandy, Utah.  I’ve reviewed a few places down this way, but recently discovered this little gem of a...

La Grande Orange

La Grande Orange

Jan 26, 2013

The day before leaving Salt Lake City for a Phoenix business trip, my wife and I went for a drive up into the Suncrest neighborhood in Draper, Utah.  The view from South Mountain was like looking out of the plane of a window down towards a thick layer of clouds, only we were not in a plane, but looking down on the Salt Lake Valley.  The inversion pollution...

Over The Counter Cafe

Over The Counter Cafe

Sep 17, 2012

What does Over the Counter Cafe have to do with the Blue Wizard from Gauntlett?  Just hear me out on this one.  The only people who will understand this are the children of the 80′s like myself.  When I was 7 years old, I lived on an airforce base in Alaska.  After school I would walk down to my mom’s work where she cut hair.  Next to her...

Rich’s Bagels

Rich’s Bagels

Sep 14, 2012

The time was 8:00 A.M and I had just woke up.  Everything that happened from that time until 8:30 was just a blur.  Let’s just say I pulled into a gas station that shall not be named to fill up the old gas tank before heading into work.  My stomach made it clear that it expected food and fast.  I decided on a milk and breakfast burrito from the gas...

Ruth’s Diner

Ruth’s Diner

Aug 20, 2012

Ruth’s Diner has been doing business in the Salt Lake area for over 80 years, and it is an experience in itself.  A long time ago,  and in a galaxy far, far away, the owner Ruth had to move her restaurant up Emigration Canyon from downtown Salt Lake and that is where it has been since 1949.  You really get a sense of this history from just looking at...

Park Cafe

Park Cafe

Jul 17, 2012

I’ve been driving by this place for years and have never stopped by before.  That is almost 15 years now of missing out on one of the tastiest breakfast gems in the Salt Lake Valley.  I, like many of you heard the chatter and ramblings about this place.  ”Hey I heard that place by Liberty Park has good food”  or “Hey that place south...

I felt it was time for my first venture outside the Salt Lake City area.  Many of us will be thinking of family vacations and trips, and a favorite place for all Utahns to visit is of course the most magical place on earth – DISNEYLAND !!!  Every visit to Disneyland without fail I always count dozens of U of U and BYU shirts and caps.  Yes we love our...

The Original Pancake House

The Original Pancake House

The Original Pancake House 790 East 2100 South #400 Salt Lake City, UT 84106 http://www.originalpancakehouse.com I’m not saying that places like IHOP, Dee’s, or Village Inn don’t have good breakfast, but with all due respect, the Original Pancake is easily one of my top 3 favorite breakfast spots in the Salt Lake Valley.  This place is the...
