Thai Mango

Thai Mango

Was on my way to a softball game last month at Sandy’s Quarry Bend Park.  I was coming from Old Mill Corporate Center and instead of taking probably the quickest route of I-215 to I-15, I decided to take some back roads and go through Murray and Sandy.  This was done on purpose as it gives me a chance to look for new yummy places to try.  This is exactly how I happened upon Thai Mango.  I stopped in and grabbed some curry to go.  It was amazing and I have since been back 4 different times with various co-workers.

Thai Mango is located in a strip mall just around the corner from Vasa Fitness.  Not very many frills here, but the restaurant is decent sized and clean.  Not a ton of decoration and ambiance, but the prices were on par with other Thai places in the valley.  I’ve tried all of the curries on the lunch special and they all come with the main dish, and heaping of sticky rice, along with your choice of pot stickers or creme cheese wonton.

Something that gives Thai Mango the edge when it comes to comparing it to other places is the size of the servings there.  I don’t think I have got through a lunch there and left just completely hammered in a sweet and blissful curry coma.  The potstickers I ordered above here were just decent.  They aren’t as good as some of the Chinese places I’ve been to, but the curry is some of the best I’ve tried in Salt Lake City.

My favorite of all of them may just be the red curry.  It had a nice little kick to it, but not enough for a 3 alarm fire in your mouth.  These dishes are well prepared, I could really taste the skill in the way the chicken was prepared, as well as the size and ratio of veggies in the curry.

My massaman curry that I ordered to go on that first to-go trip to Thai Mango was awesome.  I ate about half of it before my game, and finished off the other half after the game had ended an hour later.  I love combining the sticky rice with the curry and manacuring each bit to optimum flavor.

The one thing I have not tried here is the name sake, and that is the Thai Mango.  It isn’t available on the menu, but the waitress that always helps me says it is a local favorite.  Online reviews I read through confirm the same.  There is another gentleman that I’ve seen there 2-3 times that always orders the Pho.  It comes in a papa-bear size bowl, I wish I had a picture.  Come to Thai Mango for great flavor, good prices, and tremendous portions.  Really is a gem of a lunch spot.

If you want the best Thai food around, do a review of Nuan’s Thai Kitchen in Cottonwood Heights, UT.
