The Restaurant at Toro Verde

Toro Verde Park

One of the coolest days of my life happened last month at Toro Verde Park in Orocovis, Puerto Rico.  Toro Verde is home of the Beast which is currently the highest and second longest zip line in the world, and will soon be home to the longest and the highest.  Orocovis is in the center of the island, and you really go through some cool windy roads to get up there with some amazing views.  (see above)  The Park features a hanging bridge course along with several zip lines and a fantastic restaurant.

The Beast was awesome.  You fly horizontally and the views are amazing.  I didn’t have any problems reaching the end of the line, however some don’t quite make it due to weight or wind resistance.  I wasn’t wearing any eye protection and due to the speed my eyes watered just a bit.  Would definitely do again.

The repelling is accessible if you choose to do the Wild Bull course.  I would really recommend the Wild Bull and Beast package.  It was $130 dollars and worth every penny.  The repelling took place in the middle of a suspension bridge about 230 feet of the ground.

About half way through the day my GoPro ran out of batteries and I was super bummed that my initial Beast run wasn’t recorded.  Luckily after explaining my predicament to the management, they let me go again for just $40 more.  At that point I had already obtained the spare battery out of our rental car.

After we were done with the adventuring we headed up the restaurant.

The appetizer try was on point.  Some of the offerings were better than others.  I can tell you that the chicken cordon bleu balls went very quickly.  The patacones pictured in the middle with the flag were also very delicious.

Chicken Mofongo

My chicken mofongo in garlic sauce was awesome.  Mofongo is THE Puerto Rican dish if you go there.  Most places serve them shaped like a bowl with the meat, chicken, or seafood filling in the middle.  At Toro Verde they shape the mofongo like a pyramid, and pour the sauce and stuffings on top.  Visually stunning and very tasty.

Finally one of my colleagues got the Toro Salvaje which we were told was one of the chef’s specials there.  She gave me a try and it was quite good.

Great day, great guides, great experience.  Can’t wait to go back!
