Sapa Sushi Bar and Asian Grill Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

I’m not late to the party often when it comes to good food in SLC, but I will readily admit when I am.  This is one of those times.  Ever since really getting into the sushi scene in Utah after my visit to Takashi, everyone and their dog has recommended Sapa as being right there neck and neck in terms of sushi quality.  My son loves sushi almost as much as he loves pizza so after kicking off the New Year the right way by hitting the slopes at Brighton resort, we made our way to Sapa Asian grill just off 700 South and State St.

Sapa

Sapa

Sapa has a cool vibe and it was more packed than I expected for 8 PM.  There weren’t any tables available but there were a few open spots at the sushi bar so I took them.  You can order rolls and even stuff from the kitchen there so it really doesn’t matter.  Plus we got to sit right in front of the gentleman making our sushi, so it only added to the experience.

UFO

I went with the UFO for our first roll which had filet mignon, green beans inside the roll itself wrapped in seaweed, but then was topped with salmon.  It was a bit non traditional, but tasted on point.

Volcano

Volcano

This volcano roll was my favorite of the night.  It was topped with crunchy macadamia nuts and mango along with avocado slices.  Inside you had your standard spicy tuna and cucumber.  I loved the different flavor profiles and textures to this roll which I feel really make sushi stand out.  Would definitely order this one again.

Finally the thing that really got me hot and bothered were the pork dumplings.  Seriously, do not pass go, go straight to the pork dumplings.  Just looking at these, I need them in my mouth again.  The crunch of the dumpling, the filling, the tastiness of the dipping sauce.  O my!

Prices weren’t bad here either.  They have your basic rolls for $6 and then go up to $11 or $12 for the house premium rolls.  They also have other Asian grill fare.  I’m really kind of annoyed that I just now discovered this place, but have moved into the rotation immediately.

PS:  I have been told several times that I made a major mistake not ordering the dragon balls.  Will definitely correct on my next visit.
