Saturday's Waffle Menu

Saturday’s Waffle Menu

I was recently asked what the typical food that defines Salt Lake City is.  I really had to take a second and scratch my head and ponder over that question.  Salt Lake City has a little of everything for everybody.  I mean, we have fry sauce, and dutch oven cooking, and buffalo burgers, but I don’t know if there is that iconic dish that has originated from here.  Mormon Funeral Potatoes perhaps?  hahaha.  While I was thinking of the answer to this question, my mind kept coming back to a common denominator that ties everything together.  Utah likes comfort food.  We love the outdoors and we like delicious rich foods that define comfort food.  Perhaps that is why Saturday’s Waffle has struck such a chord here.  The provide delicious liege waffles with unique and both savory and sweet toppings and they run it all from their shiny silver food truck.

I’ve been enjoying Saturday’s Waffle for years, but have just now collected a few pictures here for your enjoyment and hunger.

The Lumberjack

The Lumberjack

One of my favorites from the savory side would have to be the Lumberjack.  You can’t get much comfort than biscuits and gravy during breakfast time.  I love the dish personally, but there are so many factors that can make the dish either great or not so great.  Are the biscuits dry or old, or are they fresh and fluffy.  Is the gravy chunky and runny, or thick and rich?  Saturday’s Waffle takes the guess-work out of the equation.  A good tasting liege waffle will beat even the best of biscuits hands down any day.  It provides such a perfect medium to deliver a world-class gravy.  If you are hungry, definitely consider this waffle!

Fresh bananas and Whipped Creme

Of course with Saturday’s Waffle you can skip the savory and go right for the sweet.  Here is a picture of the liege waffle base topped with fresh bananas, honey, pecans, and whipped creme.  Saturday’s Waffle has a bit for everyone.  Even ….. (wait for it)  CANADIENS!

Poutine

Poutine

Canadians love their poutine which are basically fries covered with cheese curds and gravy. Just look at the red bacon on top of that stack!  I literally just salivated.

You can find Saturday’s Waffle by visiting their website.  They have a truck that travels around the valley, or you can always find them every Saturday morning at the Olympus Cove shopping center.
