Bleu Bistro

Finding a place in Salt Lake City that has both great live music along with tasty and delicious food can be a challenge.  Blue Bistro aims to solve that problem with their new location up on Foothill Drive just behind Taqueria 27.

Bleu Bistro has both local and national blues acts including just recently John Nemeth, who recently won an award for best solo blues artist of the year.  The upstairs bistro has both indoor and outdoor seating with lots of natural night and space.

The lineup

The lineup

My wife and I stopped in for dinner Monday night to check out the menu.

Bacon wrapped dates

Bacon wrapped dates

One of my favorite appetizers was the bacon wrapped dates.  They were stuffed with gorgonzola cheese, and then covered in a balsamic pomegranate reduction.

Salmon Croquettes

Salmon Croquettes

Of course I couldn’t pass up these salmon croquettes.  They were rolled in panko crumbs and fried.  The sour creme and dill sauce they came with created a delicious combination.

Italian Sausage stuffed mushrooms

Italian Sausage stuffed mushrooms

For me the absolute winner and also appearing on the main menu, the Italian sausage stuffed mushrooms.  Squeezing the fresh lemon juice on top and then popping each one in my mouth filled with the italian sausage and spinach.  These standard button mushrooms were transformed into something extraordinary.  Well done Bleu Bistro.

Grilled Shrimp Risotto

Grilled Shrimp Risotto

I have a lot to say about the first dish from the main course section of our dinner.  First of all the shrimp was fantastic.  I had a little bit of a Cajun kick to it which I loved, but the risotto was fantastic.  It had shredded parmesan cheese throughout, and also had zucchini and squash mixed throughout.  I liked the different textures and flavors of the risotto that was prepared with lobster stock.  What seems to get lost on this plate and doesn’t was the broccoli.  If only kids in America could have the broccoli prepared by Bleu Bistro, we would probably have healthier kids.  They take the broccoli, blanche it, and then they salt it.  It was fantastic.

Steelhead Trout

Steelhead Trout

My wife ordered the steelhead trout with mango jicama slaw on top.  I wish more chefs would use jicama, as the last umphteen times I’ve tried it, I have loved it.  It really is a great part of a good and delicious slaw.

Flourless Cake and Ice Cream

Finally the flourless chocolate cake was a nice finishing touch to the meal.  It really had the texture of a brownie, very simply done, and very satisfying.

Bleu Bistro is a great place to get out for a relaxing and entertaining evening.  The musical acts are top notch, just keep in mind that there is a cover that runs around $20.  Expect good service, and a menu that has something for everyone.  Check them out on Facebook for specials and upcoming events.  Also keep in mind they are open for brunch specials on the weekends.  I’ve seen pictures and it looks spectacular!
