Hacienda Don Jose

Hacienda Don Jose

Hacienda Don Jose

On my very first trip to Puerto Rico, my food mission was clear.  Find the best mofongos on the island and eat them every chance I could get.  Mofongos are delicious plantain bananas mashed up and lightly fried, and then served with seafood, steak, or chicken.  They often come with either a criolla sauce or garlic sauce.  Most of the Puerto Rican places we visited while on the island had them on the menu.

Hacienda Don Jose was the first place I went to during my 3 day trip, and turned out to be my best mofongo experience.  For starters the view from the back of the restaurant is spectacular.  The tables are right up on the ocean, we could literally jump out the window and into the water if we wanted to.

This mofongo had so much glory, I don’t even know where to start.  From the moment they sat the plate down in front of me, I had that winner feeling, just like I had walked through the airport TSA gate thing without tripping the alarm.  The mofongos were done just right with the flavors combining perfectly with the meat and sauce.  The steak was juicy and well marinated.  The sauce just tied everything together.

There were other plates ordered from some of my colleagues, and I even took pictures of them, but I’m not going to show them to you, because I don’t want you to get the crazy idea that it would be okay and acceptable to order anything but the mofongo.

Service was fantastic, atmosphere was fantastic, views were spectacular.  There wasn’t anything not to love about this place.
