Laid Back

New to Cottonwood Heights is Laid Back, and Hawaiian poke cuisine.  Poke is a typical raw seafood salad often served as an appetizer in Hawaii.  I like to think of it as just all the good stuff often found in sushi, but without it all rolled up.

I arrived just a week or so after they opened, so they were letting all of their guests sample the different types of poke.  I ended up going with a bowl of sticky rice with some shrimp poke, but also some of the kalua pork.  I wanted some cooked pork goodness, but wanted to try their main offering as well.

I found the poke to be delicious and flavorful.  The pork was tender and everything that I would expect.  I would have enjoyed some good teriyaki sauce to go along with my pork, but it wasn’t a deal breaker.  The best thing about the plate were the portions.  This bowl is definitely a lot bigger than what it appears in this picture.  The tastes were great, as well as the portions.  The service was great as well.  I could tell there were just a few little kinks they were working through with their preparation and operation, but they were not major.  I expect them to have a lot of success at this location, as I believe with poke, they don’t have a lot of competition in the SL Valley.  Yummy!
