Tin Angel Cafe

Tin Angel Cafe was recently named by Salt Lake Magazine as one of Utah’s best 25 restaurants.  After I got over being offended that they didn’t consult me, I decided to pay them a visit for lunch.  Verdict? Impressive.  I give them the proverbial thumbs up and back Salt Lake Magazines assessment.  Tin Angel Cafe is among the very best you can find in this city.  In particular, the bread pudding was all sorts of crazy good.

Spinach and Fontina Soup

Spinach and Fontina Soup

Tin Angel has a unique soup of the day every day, but the spinach and fontina soup is a mainstay on the menu.  Fontina is the perfect melty cheese to use in soups and creme sauces to mix in with pastas and veggies.  It works perfectly with spinach.  This soup is a great example of using basic fresh ingredients, and delivering a smooth and rich soup.

The lunch menu has a number of sandwiches and pastas to choose from.  Tin Angel sources a lot of their food locally.  The farmer’s market is right across the street from the restaurant, so the diner owners have established relationships with local farmers to provide fresh and delicious food.

Mascarpone and Blackberry Bread Pudding

Mascarpone and Blackberry Bread Pudding

The above bread pudding isn’t just the best bread pudding that I’ve had, it is also among one of the best desserts I’ve had as well.  The bread pudding is always different, on my visit, they had a blackberry and mascarpone version.  The creme and caramel sauce that covered it was amazing.

The food was fresh and delicious.  It’s been weeks since my visit and I think about the dessert every day.  The service was great and the setting is in an old pioneer era home with old china plates and silverware.  This is definitely a great place to visit for delicious Utah fresh tastes.
