Mamak Asian Street Food in Orlando, Florida

I really didn’t have a great reason to stop here, before heading back to the airport after my last layover in Orlando.  I was already pretty stuffed from a huge lunch at Pig Floyd’s earlier in the afternoon, and still coming out of my food coma after watching a movie downtown.  Mamak ASF came so highly recommended however, that I couldn’t miss out on the opportunity to try them out.

I really liked the dining room here.  Very clean and well decorated with new hip fixtures.  There were a lot of places for single visitors to come in and try some of their tapas sized street foods.

I popped open the menu and asked for some suggestions.  There were a lot of different directions I could have gone with, but Roti Canai’s are an absolute must.  You can see the full menu online here.  It appears you can even place your order online and stop by and pick it up to go.

Mamak Roti Canai

Mamak Roti Canai

This Malaysian roti is toasted until golden brown.  It is fluffy on the inside but crispy on the outside.  The curry sauce that came with it was a bit spicy but delicious.  Honestly, I could have easily have ordered a dozen of these things and just eat them all day long and nothing else.  These roti’s were the absolute highlight of my meal.

Dumplings in Peanut Sauce

Here is another tapas dish I ordered, and I can’t quite locate them on the online menu.  If the roti were 1A, then these were 1B in flavor.  Loved the dumplings and the peanut sauce they were bathed in.

I also ordered a portion of the coconut curry chicken along with a side order of jasmin rice.  This curry was the same sauce that came along with my roti, so I was really happy about that, and also generous portions of potato and chicken throughout the bowl.

I’ll say it again about Orlando.  The theme parks is where my family ends up on most visits to Orlando, but some of the best culinary experiences are found in the city.  I’m making it a point to up my eating game every time I visit here.
