Oh Mexico

Day one in Miami, after all of my research online on best breakfast spots in the area, my plan was to make my way to Espandola Street and try out A La Folie Cafe, however when I arrived, they were shooting a movie or T.V show in front of the eatery, and they had just lost their electricity.  I decided to check out a place close by, and Oh Mexico was the winner.  Mexican cuisine has two of my favorite breakfast dishes in huevos rancheros and chilaquiles.  Oh Mexico had both on the menu so it made my decision to stop an easy one.

The decision to sit outside on the patio was an easy one with the 70 degree temperature and cool ocean breeze coming in.  It was a nice change of pace for this Utah guy.  The orange juice I ordered was worth noting.  I pride myself in being a good judge of orange juice.  I can tell when it is fresh squeezed, from concentrate, or some other store-bought version.  The portion of my juice wasn’t the greatest, it came in a half sized mason jar, but the quality was excellent.  I guess I shouldn’t have expected anything less from a place in Florida.

Chilaquiles

Chilaquiles

It has been a while since I’ve had a good chilaquiles plate.  These were well done.  I had the choice of choosing between green and red salsa, so I went with green.  The breakfast potatoes, refried beans, and scrambled eggs all seemed to work well.  I felt like I could have used a tortilla to eat my breakfast with, but I guess since chilaquiles are basically fried tortilla strips anyways, it didn’t matter.

Location was nice here.  Espandola street is somewhat narrow and they don’t allow cars to drive down it, so you can enjoy the street side patio feel without the exhaust and noise of traffic running by.  Business was slow at the time of day I visited, around 9 am.  They were well staffed and the service was great.  If I were local, I would definitely be back for not only the breakfast, but to try their other lunch and dinner offerings, but since I live in Utah, there are just way too many other places to check out and eat in Miami Beach.  It may be a while before I make it back again.
