I asked around on Facebook before our trip down to Las Vegas where the family friendly attractions or places to go were. One cool spot a bit further South on Las Vegas Blvd. is Town Center. Town Center is a huge outdoor shopping center with a kids play area in the middle filled with play houses, sprinklers, and even a cool labyrinth for the kids to play in. Selecting a place to eat was also a difficult choice because there were lots of places to choose from. We settled in on Yard House based on the recommendation of my mom who lives in Kingman, AZ, and also because it was right next door to this candy store that my kids were foaming at the mouth to go inside. The only way I was able to divert their attention from a sugar coma was direct them across the sidewalk and into Yard House.
The bar area was pretty cool, I was pretty impressed with their beer selection as it’s not something you see in Utah. There were lots of tables space, everything was open and relaxed. Lots of T.V’s to watch the game. Sometimes when I go out to eat with my wife, we will go somewhere where they may only be 1 T.V or 2 maximum, so I try to get to the table first so I can choose the seat with the best view to watch the game. (wink wink) I don’t think you will have that problem at Yard House. This is definitely a place I can see going to watch the game with friends. With all that said, however, I’m not a beer drinker so will judge The Yard House on their culinary merits alone.
One thing I can say in general about the Yard House is that the service was outstanding. I never had to ask to have my beverage refreshed and we were treated very well during our visit. One little thing that I loved about the service was as we were sampling the guacamole from the small plates menu, the waitress noticed that we were out of chips with some guacamole left on the plate. Without missing a beat, she brought out some extra chips for us. The guacamole was awesome, it was mixed at our table and tasted super fresh and delicious!
We also went with some sweet potato fries to munch on. The fries were good but a unique spin that I liked was the dipping sauce. It had a maple syrup taste to it. I liked how the sweet taste paired with the sweet potato fries. Very nice again. Yard House definitely does it right when it comes to appetizers and small plates.
My sister ordered the BBQ Chicken pizza along with some chicken tortilla soup. She enjoyed the meal, but wasn’t blown away by it. The soup certainly looked awesome.
The Cobb salad had lots of color and lots of taste. The roasted turkey in it was a nice touch.
It took me forever to order my food. I didn’t want to go with a pasta or main entrée, but opted for something from Yard House’s burger and sandwich selection. In hind sight I should have went with a burger, because the sandwich my waitress talked me into ended up not being my favorite. I hate that feeling I get in the pit of my stomach when I go to a nice place to eat, and end up ordering “the wrong thing”. The turkey melt wasn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination, but none of the elements of the sandwich were very interesting to me. It was good but not great.
So I would eat again at Yard House, the trip in all was a positive one. The food was above average, although personally I will want to order a burger for my next visit. I will definitely order those sweet potato fries again, they were the bomb!
