I have to admit that when I first saw the name of this restaurant “Eggs in the City” I immediately thought of the Billy Idol classic “Hot in the City”. As a matter of fact you should probably listen to this while you read this review. Just as Billy Idol is always awesome, anytime you have the word “eggs” in the title of a restaurant … it’s awesome. All “eggs” jokes and connotations aside, they are just an overall awesome food. If you want great tasting egg concoctions and delights. Then look no further in Salt Lake City then Eggs in the City.
The dining room is a pretty awesome place to visit on an August morning. This building appears to have been at one point some sort of garage based on the large doorway leading out to the patio area. It’s not just a hip place, it’s Billy Idol hip. I took a seat at the bar right in front of the kitchen.
Here is a sneak peek of the menu. They have a breakfast side and a lunch side, so it is safe to visit anytime of the day. I told my waiter that it was my first time and to recommend the specialty. He said the number #1 ordered item are the huevos rancheros, so I went with them.
As you can see from my plate. I really really liked my huevos rancheros. I started out by mixing in the breakfast potatoes, pico de gallo, and black beans together in the middle of my plate. They were a great combination of flavor. The huevos themselves had a salsa inside them that was amazing. Everything about this plate was working. And the fact it had an avocado on top was a home run.
My only regret from my Eggs in the City visit was not ordering bacon. From my seat at the bar, I could see a little bit what was going on in the kitchen. I saw a huge dish of thick bacon, and immediately wished that I had ordered some. Bacon is always awesome.
