I’ve got a personal good luck streak going when visiting Thai places.  It seems like I have enjoyed them all.  Simply Thai is a gem tucked away in a strip mall just south of South Towne Center in Draper.  There are two flavors that seem to come in every Thai place I’ve visited and that is curry and coconut.  Simply Thai does them both justice.

Tom Kha

Tom Kha

I started out my lunch with a bowl of Tom Kha, which is a creamy Thai coconut soup with sliced chicken breast, galangal, mushrooms, onions, cilantro, red and green bell peppers, baby corn and lime sauce.  My favorite parts of this soup was the good portions of cilantro and the lime sauce.  I love those two flavors together.  I’m also a big fan of coconut the flavor, and not the fruit.  I don’t like the texture of coconut pieces, which is why I hate Almond Joy’s while loving a good pina colada.  There was something about this bowl of Tom Kha, that was fresh and tasty.  It was creamy, but not overly creamy as to leave you bloated or without an appetite for your lunch.  I would suggest giving this little bowl of magic a try.

My two favorite types of curry are the Massaman and the Yellow so I went with those.  I’m a huge fan of eating rice with my curry too, so this plate was just great.  My only change would be perhaps to make the chunks of chicken a little smaller, but the meat was so tender, it wasn’t a problem.  Another nice touch to the service at Simply Thai, is that when I ran out of rice to eat with my curry, my waitress brought me another portion free of charge.  I like details like that from a restaurant.  It makes me feel they are not trying to nickel and dime me, but are truly looking out to make sure I have a good experience.

There are a lot of good Thai places in Salt Lake City.  You can search for them by navigating to “All Reviews” on my page and selecting “Thai” from the drop-down menu.  One thing you should do for sure though is if going to South Towne Center for a day of shopping, make sure you skip out on the food court food.  There is nothing spectacular over there.  Instead just save lunch for across the street at Simply Thai.  They have great specials and fast and friendly service.
