It would have been a crime to have eaten lunch inside on a day like this. I found a spot and rolled the dice on an Indian place up in Holladay. They advertised a $9.99 all you can eat lunch buffet along with outdoor patio seating. I made my way inside and was immediately greeted and taken back to my seat. The hostess was very friendly and asked me if I would like regular or garlic naan bread with my lunch. I went with the garlic naan. The outdoor seating was so nice, and the weather perfect, I felt like I was in heaven. The patio area is in the back and covered with a private wall lined with lights. The waitress that helped me mentioned that they have live music at night. While I only was here for lunch, I imagine that this would be a pretty sweet place to have dinner at.
In the few other Indian food places I’ve visited, the naan and Tandoori Chicken seem to be a menu item shared by all. I found the flavor on the Tandoori chicken to be perfect. It didn’t have any yucky thick skin on the outside, and the flavor seems to penetrate deep into the meat. It even had a touch of spice to it, which I liked. The coconut curry chicken was in this awesome curry sauce. The sauce along with my garlic naan was a match made in heaven. The dish in the upper right hand corner I believe was the vegetable pakora which was veggies deep-fried in chick pea flour batter. The other dishes I tried from the buffet were the Saag Aloo, which is spinach, potatoes, onions, garlic, ginger and spices, also Daal Maharani which was lentils in thick, creamy sauce with onions, tomatoes and spices. Everything I tried was awesome.
One thing in particular that stood out to me was the care that Spice Bistro took in making sure I had fresh food at the buffet. In my first pass through, one of the ladies who I assumed to be the owner told me that they would be bringing out some fresh food soon and she would let me know when it was ready. Then sure enough as I was finishing my plate she came out to my table to let me know they had brought out some new items for me. I loved the personal attention.
Like I mentioned before, each person gets a fresh dish of either traditional naan, or garlic naan. I went with the garlic naan. Of all the other naan I’ve tried in the valley, this is up there near the top.
I was impressed with Spice Bistro. All the food I had was excellent. The staff was professional and courteous and made me feel at home. Spice Bistro has an awesome Indian food selection as well as a modern American selection as well, so if there is something for everyone. Yummy!
