Squatters downtown Pub and Brewery. I parked in the public parking next door and go out of my mini Van. I was feeling pretty tough I know. I wanted to see if this was the type of place I could bring my kids in and get some food. Sure enough after walking in the door, I immediately saw 3-4 tables with small children. The place looked pretty cool, and I had heard a lot of good things about the food. It was time to try Squatters for the first time.
This bar was very open, and well decorated. I liked how everything was wood. I understand they have quite a few different beers to to choose from here. Beer drinkers can probably vouch here. I’ll be the one to vouch for the food.
It is pretty rare when I look at my younger daughters choice of food and actually get a little jealous. I snuck in a bite of the pizza and it’s actually quite good. That picture in the background is what my son ordered. He has reached that age where he is officially too big for the kids menu, so he is going off the big boy menu now.
Hmmm, yes! My wife went with the meatloaf today. Mashed potatoes with some tasty meatloaf and asparagus, topped with fried onions on top. This plate was way good. Keep in mind this is a pub and brewery, not a food only restaurant. You normally don’t find food this good at places like this. Well Squatters is the exception.
I just can’t help not ordering Mac and Cheese. If the mac and cheese is a side dish then it normally escapes my radar, but when the mac and cheese is part of the specialties, then you know it has to be something awesome! Well take a look at the above. Look at how big the macaroni pasta is. Then Squatters sprinkles on some happy shredded cheese, and a big slice of grilled chicken breast. All three of our plates ordered were so good, we each kinda took turns eating each others food. We loved it.
Squatters first started serving food in Downtown SLC back in 1989. I imagine it is tough to stay in business, and have 3 different locations without doing something right. Squatters is a good place to go if you are in Salt Lake for a night, or maybe downtown for a Jazz game. My kids loved it. They even loved going down into the basement to use the restrooms, it feels like an old subway station down there with pictures of how the building has changed over the years. What a fun meal!
