These guys have had me in suspense for months now and it was driving me crazy. Malawi’s pizza is now officially open at the Gateway Mall occupying the space where the arcade used to be. For weeks some of us employees at the Gateway Megaplex would walk over and look into the windows in order to try to figure out what was going up over there. And then we saw a huge brick oven in the center of the room, and we knew it was some sort of pizza joint. Finally the store went live, and it was an African themed pizza place? How can you not be intrigued by that? I was, so I gave it a try.
There were a few things that immediately stood out in my mind about Malawi’s Pizza. First thing was how awesome looking the pizza oven was. The pizza cooks in a matter of minutes in that thing. Second thing was how much space they have on the inside and the decorations. They have room for any size crowd. Lastly, was the feeling of how fresh my pizza was going to be. Right when my order left my mouth, I caught out of the corner of my eye, a worker immediately start to form the pizza crust with some fresh dough.
Look at how beautiful the Santa Fe Chicken pizza was? It was more of a work of art then it was a pizza. The crust was thin, which is how I like it, and the flavors were pretty good. This actually was not my favorite pizza. I went back a few days later and I had the Chicken Ranch.
Here is the Chicken Ranch pizza. This was bar none the best Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza I’ve ever had. It is a shame because they have some other really good-looking pizzas on the menu, but it is going to be really hard for me to ever try something else. This pizza was spectacular.
One thing I forgot to mention was the number of desert pizzas they also have. I would have expected to see 1 or 2 on the menu, but they actually have 6 different flavors to choose from. I’ve been told the Berries and Cream pizza is awesome.
And a few pics from inside the place:
I was really impressed with this place. I’m sure it is going to give California Pizza Kitchen, which is just a few yards away, a run for its money. Word of mouth from guests and people who work at the theatre has all been really positive. There you go guys. For those that were curious about this place, there is the 411 on this pizza hot-spot. Give it a try!
